Lost - Follow the Leader

Last week I wrote about how Lost had fractured its story arcs to a point where entire episodes went without mentioning key characters. Tonight everyone was a player. Two groups have formed in the fight for the island. In the present, Locke and company are working to ensure that events on the island (past and present) solidify his role as leader of the Others . In the past, Jack wants to follow the late Daniel Farraday’s advice and disrupt the flow of time by setting off the bomb. It must be nice to be John Locke. His supreme confidence in his abilities and understanding of the island have put him firmly in charge of both the Others and, more importantly, Ben. To say he has made Ben his bitch is putting it lightly. He taunts Mr. Linus with his ability to talk to the island and knowledge of Jacob. I like Ben being put on his heels. We also get some clues about Richard Alpert when Ben says he has been an advisor for a “very, very long time.” We knew Richard had some issues with ...

Scrubs - JD's last day

For me, Scrubs is like one of those friends I knew growing up that I slowly lost touch with over time, but when we get back together it is like nothing has changed. We instantly break into the same conversational rhythm, bust out the same old jokes, share some good laughs, wonder why we haven’t gotten together in so long and promise to do it again soon. I went through a phase where I watched Scrubs daily in syndication and then would not watch it again for a year, but I never felt like I missed a beat. Read: JD's Last Day at CinemaBlend

If Terminator is canceled I understand

Today, Josh Levs from CNN plead with Fox to keep Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles . All signs point to this show being canceled and there has been a fairly substantial outcry from critics and fans alike to keep Sarah and company around for another season. This writer cries with them. That being said, I disagree with a portion of Josh's commentary especially concerning the ending to last season. Continue reading this article at cinema blend .

American Idol - Paradise City anyone?

Slash was the hired help for rock night. Idol saved the relevant stars for the end of the season. I was kind of hoping he would go on stage and play with each performer, but that may have overshadowed the contestants. A fairly standard night with the performances all well above average. Adam stood out but I am getting tired of talking about him so we'll just leave it at that. The other performances were good, but had flaws. That isn't saying much at this point as all four remaining contestants have some kind of career waiting for them post-Idol. Tonight, though the top four performed duets to a couple of different rock songs. I love the idea and it made the hour full of performances without feeling rushed. The duets sounded great and the rock format worked well. What I absolutely hated was the judges critiques of the duets. Why? Why not just leave them as entertainment and move on? Having each judge break down the positives and negatives of a duet was overkill eviden...

24 - Dilemmas

An entertaining, yet weird, season winds down, but not without a few more ethical dilemmas to whet your controversial whistle. (spoilers ahead) Tony is holed up with this random Arab guy that I have seen in some movie but I just cant place. I don't love the bad Tony. I have trouble buying him as a villian. He's just done too many things to help America. Also, unfortunately for him and his crew Jack, Chloe and the FBI were able to track down the one guy in Washington Tony targeted to frame for the terrorist attack. And lets get a quick checklist of moral and ethical dilemmas covered this season (stars if they were covered in this episode as well): Torture: check Searches without warrants: check **** Citizen Privacy: check **** Racial profiling: check **** Government witnesses(immunity): check **** Religion: check **** Animal cruelty: not yet but we still have some time left That about sums up this season. I have thought, overall, 24 has been captivating but the constant r...

Family Guy - The Hills

I love Family Guy . Unfortunately I am mostly an “in-syndication” viewer. I can’t say I have ever watched it in its original broadcast slot (save maybe the pilot a few years ago). Usually I will catch the reruns on TBS in the pre-primetime slot. But last night I caught “We Love You Conrad,” the Family Guy and The Hills crossover. Sunday nights at 9 are back in my regular viewing pattern. (At least for the next few weeks when the season ends. Nice timing Channelup. Nice timing.) I never got into The Hills mostly because I am straight, a guy, intelligent, a guy, straight, I can’t find the MTVHD channel on Fios, straight, a guy, intelligent, and a guy. But I can appreciate anyone willing to make fun of themselves for the purpose of the greater comedic good. LC’s (yes I used to watch Laguna Beach which probably negates anything I said earlier in this paragraph) willingness to subject herself to ridicule from the writers and characters of Family Guy is admirable. The decision to ma...
